NFT IRL: The future of digital art and web3
Samsung Next will be joining a number of its portfolio company founders during a special program, NFT IRL, being held in conjunction with Miami Art Week, Nov. 30 – Dec. 5. A contingent of nearly 20 leaders and investors from Samsung Next will be present this week in Miami; DM us on Twitter if you’d like to meet up!
Samsung Next and its portfolio companies are on the forefront of the convergence of art and finance. In particular, we will be hosting six panel discussions as part of our NFT IRL program, exploring how non-fungible tokens (NFTs) are transforming the art world and beyond. We’ll also be supporting other events and in-real-life (IRL) networking opportunities for entrepreneurs, artists, and investors.
Creating Utility and Value: How NFTs and DAOs Coexist
Our first session, from 12:30 to 1:15 p.m. on Dec. 1, will explore what happens when assets and governance collide. Who really wins?
The program moderator will be Isabelle Kitze, co-founder of Atomic Form, a Samsung Next portfolio company. She will be joined on the panel by two of our other partners, Trevor McFedries, CEO of Dapper Collectives, and Seth Goldstein, Founding Member of Bright Moments DAO. Daniel Hwang, founding member of HanDAO and Head of Protocol at Stakefish, will also be part of the panel discussion
Mutual Monetization: Wishful Thinking or Honest Truth
Our second session during NFT IRL Miami will explore how, with the expansion of NFTs in art, collectors and creators can both prevail. That program will be held on Dec. 1, from 1:30-2:15 p.m.
Jacob Loewenstein, Head of Business at Spatial, will moderate the panel. He will be joined by Gabriel Santos, NFT collector and artist advisor. In addition, the panel also will include Krista Kim, contemporary artist and founder of the Techism movement.
There’s a Marketplace for That: How to Mint and List Your Art Effectively
From setting up a crypto-currency wallet to finding the right marketplace, how can artists maximize their potential for success? That’s what our third session on Dec. 1 will explore, from 2:30 to 3:15 p.m.
Panelists will include David Bianchi, multi-hyphenate artist, and Michelle von Kalben, photographer and digital artist. Zack Yanger, Senior Vice President of Business Development at SuperRare, will serve as the moderator.
Community, Web3, and Exploding the Potential of NFTs
The fourth session of NFT IRL Miami, on Dec. 2, will explore how a distributed, decentralized community is required to succeed in web3. The panel, which will be held from 12:30 to 1:15 p.m., will be moderated by Brendon Kim, Head of Investments at Samsung Next. Panelists will include John Crain, founder and CEO of SuperRare, and Steve Lee, Investment Director at BlockTower Capital.
Breaking Up the Boys Club: How Women are Claiming their Place in the NFT Ecosystem
Our next session on Dec. 2 will consider how female artists and curators are taking over the digital art world, and challenging perceptions along the way. Andrea Urban, Director of Artist Relations at Nifty’s – another of our portfolio partners – will moderate the session, from 1:30-2:15 p.m. She will be joined by Maliha Abidi, Visual Artist and Founder of Women Rise NFT; Olive Allen; Crypto Visual Artist; Fanny Lakoubay, Crypto Art Advisor; and Sian Morson, Head of Community at Palm.
Level Up: The Next Breakout in web3
As web3 enhances the internet as we know it, what’s next for builders and creators? That’s the question we’ll be exploring at the final session on Dec 2, from 2:30 to 3:15 p.m. David Lee, head of Samsung Next, will be the moderator. Panelists will include Jeff Marsilio, co-founder and CEO of Nifty’s.
We’ll be featuring deeper dives into each of these sessions over the next few weeks, so bookmark the Samsung Next blog for future reference.
