Why we invested in Koyeb, the next-gen serverless platform

Google, Microsoft, and Amazon have long dominated the cloud market due to their extensive global infrastructure and data center networks, enabling them to provide reliable and low-latency cloud services to customers worldwide. While these cloud providers have made efforts to simplify certain aspects of deployment and management, most organizations still lack the resources and DevOps expertise required to operate those tools to effectively manage and scale their infrastructure.

Koyeb addresses this challenge by offering a managed full-stack serverless edge platform. Developers can deploy applications globally, and the infrastructure automatically scales without the need for extensive configuration or DevOps expertise. By providing a global edge deployment platform, Koyeb embraces a critical component in the age of mobile cloud services and 5G infrastructure. The platform allows applications to be deployed close to the end-users, enhancing latency and performance, which can be a game-changer for consumer services.

We invested in Koyeb because of its mission to simplify app deployment using a global serverless platform, enabling developers and businesses to effortlessly deploy, run, and scale applications worldwide, without the need for code rewrites or infrastructure management. The global serverless architecture market is projected to reach $30 billion by 2027; Koyeb’s unique approach to solving complex infrastructure challenges puts them in a prime position to capture a significant share of this growing market. We’re excited to join Koyeb’s $7 million seed round alongside Bertrand Diard and Floriane de Maupeou at Serena, ISAI, MongoDB, and others.

One of the most compelling reasons behind our investment in Koyeb is the founder-market fit. Koyeb’s team comprises the same individuals who founded Scaleway, a cloud division of the Iliad Group. Scaleway quickly rose through the ranks to become one of the top three European cloud service providers. With such an impressive track record, we’re confident the team’s experience and expertise will propel Koyeb to lead in this new category.

With new software paradigms like JAMStack, serverless, and event-driven architectures gaining momentum, the market for native cross-cloud distributed edge PaaS is emerging. Koyeb’s approach aligns perfectly with these trends, positioning the company for substantial growth and success in this rapidly evolving tech landscape. As the world embraces new software paradigms and the need for global edge deployment solutions grows, Koyeb is poised to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of technology.
