Why we invested in MiSalud: Closing the care gap for the Latino community
The U.S. healthcare system is fraught with challenges for millions of Americans, but these challenges are particularly acute for the Latino community. Despite making up over 62 million people—20% of the workforce and 78% of net new workers from 2020-2030—Latinos face systemic barriers like language, cultural mismatches, and limited affordable care. The pandemic exposed and widened these gaps, especially in chronic condition management, mental health support, and preventive care. Employers are also struggling to better support this vital workforce demographic.
MiSalud is a digital health platform transforming healthcare access for Latinos. This service offers unlimited telehealth consultations in Spanish, covering physical health and mental health, as well as customizable programs covering health screenings, chronic disease management, nutrition programs, and personalized care plans. By providing culturally attuned, linguistically relevant services, MiSalud addresses a critical and growing need—and that’s why we invested.
MiSalud’s telehealth technology ensures simple and accessible care. Members enroll through their employers and then register via the mobile app, schedule same-day virtual consultations with Spanish-speaking healthcare providers, and receive personalized care plans. The dual-provider model employs Mexican-based professionals for general services while U.S.-licensed providers handle prescriptions and specialized care. Follow-up visits, mental health resources, and wellness tools further enhance ongoing support.
By integrating bilingual providers and culturally sensitive care, MiSalud eliminates longstanding barriers for Latino communities. Over 95% of users prefer Spanish-speaking providers, and MiSalud delivers this experience while keeping costs manageable for both insured and uninsured members. The platform’s scalable approach, coupled with strong leadership, positions it to remain mission-driven and impactful. The pandemic’s acceleration of telehealth adoption and today’s competitive labor market further highlight MiSalud’s value as an essential solution for individuals and employers alike.
We’re excited about MiSalud’s leadership changes as Bismarck Lepe, co-founder and Executive Chairman, transitions to CEO in December. Bismarck’s experience in building and scaling ventures like Ooyala and Wizeline uniquely equips him to advance MiSalud’s mission. This change follows Cindy Blanco’s remarkable leadership, during which revenue grew to over 10X, setting the company on a path to profitability. Cindy leaves to lead economic development for the State of Jalisco and remains on MiSalud’s board. With Bismarck fully focused on MiSalud, we’re confident in the company’s trajectory toward greater impact.
MiSalud isn’t just a healthcare platform—it’s a bridge to equity for millions of Latinos. We’re proud to support their mission and look forward to the continued impact they’ll have.
